Hi!
I am Laura, and very pleased to be your host. I am, also, a vegan, an animal lover and advocate for all animal lives, avid reader and completely obsessed with Horror films & books! And all things Apocalyptic.
BOOKS: I read some fun post-apocalyptic books by some great Indie authors: Jake Bible (Z-Burbia series) & Bobby Adair (Slow Burn series). I didn't think one could laugh out loud during post-apocalyptic scenarios, but these 2 authors are THE BEST! Dirk Patton and his V-Plague series is action packed and full of excitement + there's 19 books in the series - all great reads! When you visit their sites you can see all of the books & series they've written. Dirk Patton has a new release that I just purchased: The Awakening. I love GoodReads.com and welcome new reading friends to exchange & share titles, authors & books!
MOVIES: It's a thing: Stay at "a cabin in the woods" and watch scary movies👻 As a host of cabins in the woods, I am frequently asked if we have scary movie DVDs or if I can recommend a good scary movie...
So, I thought it was time to list my favorite horror, thriller & suspense films. I watch a lot of Indie Films & Foreign Films produced by Gravitas Ventures, Indie Rights, Asylum, Wild Eye; some are subtitled, but really worth the watch.
At each of our cabins we have either a Smart TV, or a BlueRay Player that'll allow you to pull up your Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, YouTube TV, etc.
Scroll down to view: Newer Scary Movies (Years 2000 & Up), Older Scary Movies (Prior to 2000),
Not Scary and Shows & Series.
There is no specific order in which I'm listing the movies, I've just been listing these for months on paper, now hoping you'll enjoy them, too. The list will continue to grow! PLEASE, message me your favorite films, authors & books and we'll continue to add to the collections! I hope this is fun for all!
So, make that big ole bowl of popcorn, pour your favorite libation & cozy up with those surrounding you because these movies are perfect for a fright night in the woods!

- Vicious Fun (2020) My new favorite horror with some comedy mixed in for good fun. Great actors who were cast perfectly for their roles. Everything from the spoofed out music, lighting, sound, shadowing, wardrobe, makeup, acting and set were spot on all while hitting an 80's vibe! I did not recognize any of these actors, even from Indie films, but there were great! If you're looking for something that is an easy horror with mild blood (there is some or it wouldn't be horror, it'd be a comedy), this is a great one. Joel, a caustic 1980s film critic for a national horror magazine, finds himself unwittingly trapped in a self-help group for serial killers. With no other choice, Joel attempts to blend in or risk becoming the next victim.
- Anything For Jackson (2020) Creepy! Old couple kidnapping a pregnant woman then preforming a reverse exorcism to bring their grandson, Jackson, back from the dead?! CREEPY! This film had some really creepy scenes, truly. I will definitely watch it again! If you aren't into exorcism movies you'll probably want to go to a simple slasher, but this one will be sure to give you the chills.
- Wolf Creek 1 & Wolf Creek 2 (Australian) - Personally, I think the Aussies make great horror films. These two have their fair share of gore
- Fractured (2016) - This is a great British Indy Film. Noir'ish, well acted, with a great spin.
- Security (2021) A Netflix Film, this is Italian subtitled, but you can also switch to English dubbed. I prefer the subtitles and hearing the actors' real voices, but either way this is really good! "After the assault of a young woman in their seaside town, a security expert and his family get caught in a powerful riptide of secrets and lies....." Not a horror, rather a thriller, who done it.
- I See You (2019) - Other than reading the little synopsis, I had no idea what this film was all about, and I'm leaving it that way for you, other than copying and pasting IMBD's only sentence about the movie. I'll also say that it was great to see Helen Hunt in another movie! ENJOY this mystery/suspense movie! "Strange occurrences plague a small town detective and his family as he investigates the disappearance of a young boy."
- The Silencing (2020) - This is a new movie and a really good suspenseful who done it. Starring Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jamie from Game of Thrones) and centered in a conservation park, a reformed hunter living in isolation on a wildlife sanctuary becomes involved in a deadly game of cat and mouse when he and the local Sheriff set out to track a vicious killer who may have kidnapped his daughter years ago. This was for rent on Amazon and I thought well worth the $6.99!
- At the End of Eight (2019) - This well-done little indie suspense film was definitely worth the watch on Amazon - Three young contestants sneak inside the home of complete strangers as part of a popular yet highly illegal game. The game requires the three players to stay within the home for eight hours without being discovered. If they succeed, each player stands to win a prize of ten thousand dollars. But this time, this is no ordinary home. Who will make it out at the end of eight? I think it was $2.99
- Host (2020) - The first COVID-19 quarantine flick I've seen - I watched 8/11/2020 on Amazon's Shudder. An Australian Independent Film, and not bad, not bad at all! Six friends accidentally invite the attention of a demonic presence during an online séance.
- Knuckleball (2018) - This is a great film. The little boy was fantastic. I definitely recommend! Alone, and targeted on an isolated farm, 12 year-old Henry finds himself at the center of a maelstrom of terror, and a dark family legacy, when his secretive grandfather dies suddenly in the night.
- The Clearing (2020) - Zombie apocalypse about a father & daughter caught up in the madness of the beginning of the virus outbreak. I thought for a little film, the acting was really good, the characters were real and the little girl is really good. AND, for as far-fetched as it is, it was filmed well. If you're into the zombie apocalypse, this is a good one to checkout for fun!
- The Decline (2020) - This is a Netflix Original, French with English subtitles. This was really good. A group of DIY survivalists head out to a remote camp to learn how to live off-grid, out in the middle of a snowy forest. Good acting, beautiful scenery - I really liked it. However, I would not call this scary or a horror film, rather a thriller.
- The Chamber (2016) - This is not a horror movie, rather a suspenseful underwater thriller. It was an easy watch and entertaining. A three-man Special Ops team on a secret recovery mission and a civilian pilot become trapped underwater in a small claustrophobic submersible craft off the coast of North Korea.
- All Cheerleaders Die (2013) Leaving all clichés aside because this little film is full of them + really beautiful people, these beautiful people made a clever, fun, slightly gory (just enough), well-acted witchingly good horror film. A rebel girl signs up a group of cheerleaders to help her take down the captain of their high school football team, but a supernatural turn of events thrusts the girls into a different battle.
- 10X10 (2018) - I stumbled across this film while browsing for new indie films I had yet to see. This was a great stumble! A man abducts a flower shop owner and holds her captive in a small, soundproof room in an effort to extract a dark secret from her past. I watched this on Hulu and recommend, for sure!
- Desolation (2017) - A very suspenseful and creepy camping trip. The acting is great in this little film and filled with suspense. Definitely recommend! A mother takes her son and her best friend on a trip into remote wilderness to scatter his father's ashes; they must confront their fears when a lone hiker begins following them. Free on Amazon.
- In Her Skin (2009) - An Australian film; not scary in the traditional sense of the workings of horror films, but psychologically following this girl throughout the movie is terrifying. I love Sam Neill and I love that he delves into small Independent films. This is what every parent fears: their child not coming home when they're meant to. When the fifteen-year-old student, Rachel Barber, doesn't climb off the tram to meet her dad, Elizabeth, her mother, and Mike, her dad, bolt into action. I love Australian films!!! Free on Amazon.
- Caught Inside (2010) - Australian Indie film about a group of surfers out on a boating expedition to Paradise. Very good and excellently acted by all, this psychological thriller will definitely keep you intrigued. The actors do a great job keeping you involved even with a tough subject matter. Actually, when all is said and done, there are a few tough subject matters, and ones that people have a hard time openly discussing. Sexual abuse and psychological/personality disorders. From IMBD: "Sometimes we suffer the monsters we create. On a boat, in the middle of nowhere, you cant just walk away."
- The Breed (2006) - This is an oldie but a suspenseful one! A group of five college kids are forced to match wits with unwelcoming residents when they fly to a "deserted" island for a party weekend.
- The Pack (2015) - Another good Aussie film, great acting, and suspenseful! A farmer and his family must fight for survival after a ferocious pack of wild dogs infiltrates their isolated farmhouse. Through a series of frightening and bloody encounters they are forced into survival mode to make it through the night. Free on Amazon!
- In Their Skin (2012) - Really good, suspenseful creepy neighbor movies. The Hughes' cottage vacation is violently interrupted by a family on a murderous and identity-stealing journey, in search of the "perfect" life. Free on Amazon
- Found Footage 3D (2016) - This is in 2D Version, and not a bad found footage film. I watch a lot and these types and this one is worth listing. A group of filmmakers set out to make the first 3D found footage horror movie, but find themselves in a found footage horror movie when the evil entity from their film escapes into their behind-the-scenes footage.
- I Remember You (2017) - I don't know what it is about Icelandic films/series, but I love them. I watched this on Hulu, but can also be seen on Amazon, from what IMBD shows. This is a ghostly, murder mystery that was a fantastic watch. It is English subtitled, but very worth it. I don't know if it's the Icelandic scenery, their fascinating language, their sound effects & music, but all of it put together never leaves me disappointed with anything I've seen made in Iceland. A story about a young man and woman who move into a small abandoned town in Iceland to renovate an old house. Little do they know the town has a dark history.
- The Fear Footage (2018) - This indie film accomplished its goal - scared me! It amazes me what goes through people's minds who write and put this stuff on film. This is a found footage type genre about a cop who's called out to investigate a house.... It's a trippy ride through a haunted experience. Now on to the 2nd installment. Let's see if it can creep me out just as much as this one did. I literally jumped more times than I have watching a movie in a really long time! Worth the $2.99 on Amazon for the SD version, I believe $4.99 for the HD V.
- The Fear Footage 2: Curse of the Tape (2020) - Yeah, this one got me a few time, too. Not as scary as the 1st, but had it's moments, especially toward the end. $2.99 SD version on Amazon, and was worth the watch.
- Ready or Not (2019) - I'm not one who is into games, including bridal shower games and after this movie, neither am I into wedding day games! This was a fun scary movie. A bride's wedding night takes a sinister turn when her eccentric new in-laws force her to take part in a terrifying game.
- Beneath (2013) - This is one of those claustrophobic films. This was a well shot, indie film. A crew of coal miners becomes trapped 600 feet below ground after a disastrous collapse. As the air grows more toxic and time runs out, they slowly descend into madness and begin to turn on one another. Free on Amazon
- Crush the Skull (2015) - Dark comedy, horror and a thrill ride all combined into this clever little indie film. A couple of master thieves find themselves trapped within a house they intended to rob, only to discover they've inadvertently wandered into the lair of a deranged serial killer.
- Scare Campaign (2016) - Australian film about a prank gone bad. A group of people run a TV show where they set up locations to scare people. Things go horribly wrong when the producer wants them to get darker as they set up an asylum to spook the new target: a creepy guy who used to work there.
- The Strangers (2008) - Liv Tyler stars in this very suspenseful and scary, real life kind of movie. After returning from a wedding reception, a couple staying in an isolated vacation house receive a knock on the door in the mid-hours of the night. What ensues is a violent invasion by three strangers, their faces hidden behind masks. The couple find themselves in a violent struggle, in which they go beyond what either of them thought capable in order to survive.
- Better Watch Out (2016) - This movie is so good!!!!! Clever and scary and excellent characters! When you think the suburbs, you think safety, but this holiday night the suburbs are anything but safe. Ashley (Olivia DeJonge) thought this babysitting job was going to be an easy night, but the night takes a turn when dangerous intruders break in and terrorize her and the twelve-year-old boy, Luke (Levi Miller), she's caring for. Ashley defends her charge to the best of her ability only to discover this is no normal home invasion.
- Feast (2005) - Dark humor, creature feature, gore fest, but really good. Loved the cast & characters, and another horror flick where you can tell the cast had fun making the film. And the creatures were creepy looking. Even though there is a lot of gore, it's filmed in a way where it's not too hard to take in and have to close your eyes. Great filming for a small budgeted film. In a remote bar, a newcomer advises the customers to seal the place up, as hungry monsters will soon attack them. The customers must quickly organize a strategy to defend themselves from the deadly creatures.
- Carriers (2009) - I've seen this movie quite a few times. It starts off quickly, is well acted, real-life scary, human breakdown in times of a world-wide virus pandemic. As a lethal virus spreads globally, four friends seek a reputed plague-free haven. But while avoiding the infected, the travelers turn on one another.
- The Children (2008) - This was a creep kid movie. Totally creepy! Elaine and Jonah and their teenage daughter and young son and daughter, come to spend New Year with her sister Chloe and husband Robbie and their two young children at their isolated country home. One by one the children, after apparently being sick, become increasingly malevolent.
- Dangerous Lies (2020) - This isn't really a horror, but a pretty good suspenseful thriller. It's a Netflix Original, so easily streamed! It kept me interested, and entertained from start to end. I definitely recommend for an easy watch that can be enjoyed for just about any age teens and up. When a wealthy elderly man dies and unexpectedly leaves his estate to his new caregiver, she's drawn into a web of deception and murder. If she's going to survive, she'll have to question everyone's motives - even the people she loves.
- Wounds (2019) - This is a Hulu Original. Odd, but good. Kept me entertained throughout. Disturbing and mysterious things begin to happen to a bartender in New Orleans after he picks up a phone left behind at his bar.
- Dark Light (2019) - I streamed this on Netflix. It is a pretty decent creature feature style light horror movie. No deep plot, easy to follow, and moved quickly through scenes. I'd recommend as an easy to watch scary movie. After her divorce, a woman and her daughter move back into her childhood home to discover it's inhabited by monsters 👹
- Mom and Dad (2017) - What an interesting ride this movie takes you on. Nicholas Cage, Selma Blair and one hell of a trip. Watched this on Hulu, and if you're into something really different, give this one a go, for sure! Something terrible is definitely happening in the a peaceful suburban community as, day by day, former caring parents mysteriously turn into ravenous carriers of an unfathomable pandemic that targets their offspring. Suddenly, like every son and daughter in the entire nation, teenage Carly and Josh Ryan must run for their lives, as the rage-filled murderous intent is as unstoppable as it is inexplicable. Before long, the Ryans' usual simmering familial tensions take on a completely different meaning. Kids, stop hiding. Mom and Dad love you so much. Definitely a Dark Comedy/Horror
- M.O.M. Mother of Monsters (2020) - M.O.M. = W.O.W. -- This was some kind of F'ed up dysfunctional family dynamic, but was also really captivatingly interesting to watch. I have wondered what parents do if they are suspect of their child's behavior... I think this took it over the top, but still worth the watch. A distraught mother suspects her teenage son is plotting a school shooting, but when he slips through the cracks of the system, she is forced to take matters into her own hands. After installing an elaborate spy camera system in their home, Abbey captures a series of disturbing videos that confirm her worst fears. Torn between a mother's unconditional love and a mother's acute intuition, Abbey caters her videos to all the other "mothers of monsters" online. Abbey's plan backfires when Jacob uses a dark family secret against her, launching both mother and son on a terrifying, and ultimately deadly, game of cat and mouse. Free on Amazon Prime.
- Ghost House (2017) - This one is pretty good. A young couple go on an adventurous vacation to Thailand only to find themselves haunted by a malevolent spirit after naively disrespecting a Ghost House.
- Like Me (2017) - This indie film is definitely different, and weird, but really good. It was not what I expected, at all. A young woman sets out on a crime spree that she broadcasts on social media.
- Door To the Other Side (2016) - This only had a 3.9 IMBD rating, but a lot of my indie films do.... Not sure why sometimes, as some are really good. As is the case with this one, I thought. Atmospherically it brought on the ghostly vibes, the acting was really good, especially by the older gentleman, the main character, Tim. And the girl in it was very pretty. All 3 main characters and side characters were really well cast. I do recommend for a ghost, paranormal type film. I give it, at least, 6 in my ratings! I'm glad when I don't pay attention to low ratings, all the time. A young couple awakens a terrible force when they attempt to socialize their reclusive neighbor.
- Fox Trap (2019) - This is a British suspense thriller with a smart little twist. I was engaged throughout the whole film. After a terrible accident leaves a young girl disabled, five years later, the group responsible are invited to a remote manor house in the countryside for a class reunion. Little do they know, they are being targeted by a masked maniac hell bent on revenge.
- Starry Eyes (2014) - If you are in the mood for a dark, twisted, and really well acted indie film, I definitely recommend this one. And it's Free with Amazon Prime. A hopeful young starlet uncovers the ominous origins of the Hollywood elite and enters into a deadly agreement in exchange for fame and fortune.
- Legion (2010) - Dennis Quaid leads this suspenseful, otherworldly horror flick, and he leads it well. This is one I've seen a few times and I'm like it more each time I watch it. The old lady scene freaks me out every time! When a group of strangers at a dusty roadside diner come under attack by demonic forces, their only chance for survival lies with an archangel named Michael, who informs a pregnant waitress that her unborn child is humanity's last hope.
- Icequake: Panic in the Alps (2014) - This is a French film with English subtitles. If you have a fear of heights this movie will keep you suspended in suspense!
- Albino Farm (2009) - Dang nab, back woods! Best be careful of those hillbilly backwood types. College students exploring the Ozark Mountains for a school assignment, stumble upon a group of scary, redneck cave-dwellers. Small little indie film, with a fun, young cast. I watched the "Making of Albino Farms" after the film, and they all had lots of fun making this little horror flick!
- Midnighters (2017) - This was a good indie thriller from the director of The Walking Dead & Krytpon. Their marriage was already in trouble. Then came the accident and bad decisions. Their troubles just got so much worse.
- Wildling (2018) - This was an interesting little film. The girl was really good, and the film kept me involved throughout. Atmospherically, it was well-put-together! A blossoming teenager uncovers the dark secret behind her traumatic childhood.
- Dawn of the Dead (2004) - This movie is not only a well-put-together zombie flick, it is funny, its characters fantastic, the whole thing is worth a watch or two or three! A nurse, a policeman, a young married couple, a salesman and other survivors of a worldwide plague that is producing aggressive, flesh-eating zombies, take refuge in a mega Midwestern shopping mall.
- Lazarus Effect (2015) - This is a good medical thriller, likened to Flatliners. Good cast with Even Peters for all you American Horror Story fans.
- Dead Awake (2016) - I am one who has experienced a "night terror" and thankfully, only once. It was so real and something I will NEVER forget. I couldn't wake up even though I knew I was asleep, I could not move, couldn't talk or scream, but could see presences walking through my room, one was a tall figure wearing a weird hat of some cowboy style, but the creep/evil or whatever essence it evoked has stayed with me. This is what this movie is about. Made from the directors of the Final Destination films, this portrays the paralysis, the fear and the oddness of having one of these "dreams." Has anyone else ever experienced a "night terror?" It's said millions will experience, at least one, in one's lifetime. A young woman must save herself and her friends from an ancient evil that stalks its victims through the real-life phenomenon of sleep paralysis.
- Stalker Club (2017) - This was another pretty easy watch about 5 students who get an text invitation to join a game called Stalker Club. When they decide to join an interesting masked person starts following them; however, when things begin to get out of hand after a tragic incident involving one of the kids, they all decide to stop the game. But the game doesn't end.... Pretty people, tiny little blood scenes, slight scare moments, and overall an entertaining watch for a Sunday! Teenagers & up can easily watch this. And it's Free on Amazon.
- Forget Me Not (2009) - Good and decent teen scream. These types of movies are what I refer to as "easy to watch." No gore, pretty people, and a good Sunday afternoon flick. These are teens so there is some light sex (no nudity), some drug & alcohol but it's a well done, cheesy, horror/thriller.
- All The Devils Are Here (2014) - I found this film on Amazon Prime Videos and what a good creature type of film. The acting was great, and you could tell the actors had fun making the film. The creatures were creatively thought of. It had some humor, just enough blood without the screen being splattered in constant red, and kept me entertained throughout! Definitely recommend. And FREE for Amazon Prime members!
- Hide in the Light (2018) - A group of friends enter an old orphanage, and are picked on and picked off by one scary little girl who was once an orphan who lived in the building when it was an orphanage in the 60's ... She has a "friend" and they like to play Hide & Seek 👻 For Days of Our Lives fans, Chandler Massey has a good role in this creepy film. Another Amazon Prime FREE flick!
- Hangman (2015/16) - I found this flick on Amazon Prime (there is a paid version, but be sure to search for the FREE Prime version). Not quite sure how I felt about it, but it kept my attention. This is a look into the sick mind of a voyeuristic man. Returning from vacation, the Miller family find their home has been broken into. After cleaning up the mess they continue with their lives, shaking off the feeling of being violated. But little do they know the nightmare has just begun.
- Nesting Dolls (2019) - This is a whole different kind of dark. The 3 gals played their weirdo parts really well. Different, and keeps your brain invested. Nesting Dolls is a psychological thriller about the darker sides of us that can lie just beneath the surface. Tori, Britt, and Erica are sorority sisters who spend a week together at a river house. When near-catastrophe strikes, the three are forced against one another as sisters turn to enemies and their humanity and sanity spirals.
- They're Inside (2019) - This is an interesting, little Indy film. I had to pay attention, but in the end it does pull together. It definitely has its disturbing vibe going on. It worked.
- The Intruders (2015) - Not perfect, but will entertain
- Gnaw (2008) - This is for those of you who like gore mixed in with fright. British indie film with likable characters. A group of people staying in England discover that there are brutal cannibals in their midst.
- High Tension (2005) - French film, but English dubbed. Not subtitled. If you read Intensity by Dean Koontz you'll really enjoy this film!!!
- Vacancy (2007) - This is a scary overnight trip for this couple who check into some crazy hotel. This is one I can watch over and over, and still get a bit creeped out even though I know what's coming! A married couple becomes stranded at an isolated motel and finds hidden video cameras in their room. They soon realize that unless they escape, they'll be the next victims of a snuff film.
- The Possession of Hanna Grace (2018) - This was a good one! When a cop who is just out of rehab takes the graveyard shift in a city hospital morgue, she faces a series of bizarre, violent events caused by an evil entity in one of the corpses.
- Wer (2013) - Indie French film, but mostly all in English - Interesting take on werewolves
- Z (2019) - This is a suspenseful thriller about a little boy and his imaginary friend, Z, who likes terrorizing this small family. It was an easy watch, and Free with Amazon Prime
- Howl (2015) - I'm not always a fan of werewolf movies, but the above movie Wer & this one are really good. This is a British film. The actors & characters are really likable, the creatures shown well, it's suspenseful with just enough blood but not too much. When passengers on a train are attacked by a creature, they must band together in order to survive until morning.
- Some Kind of Hate (2015) - The underlying theme is BULLYING told in a rather gruesome story. With that said, the young actors in this indie film are great in their parts, and the story held my attention throughout. A bullied teenager is sent to a reform school where he accidentally summons the spirit of a girl, herself a victim of bullying, who takes vengeance on his tormentors.
- Contagion (2011) - Matt Damon and Kate Winslet and Jude Law stars in this very real-life pandemic thriller. Healthcare professionals, government officials and everyday people find themselves in the midst of a pandemic as the CDC works to find a cure.
- Prey (2007) - African safari gone bad...
- Infection (2019) - Filmed in Venezuela with mostly English subtitles, this is a good thriller! Film about an epidemic outbreak of a new rabies virus in Venezuela and a father trying to save his son from contagion.
- The Turning (2020) - This had low ratings on IMBD, but I didn't think it was bad. It is a ghost movie. Acting was good, but was a bit weird. The teenage son & little girl are good in their parts, as is the live-in teacher & old woman. A young woman quits her teaching job to be a private tutor (governess) for a wealthy young heiress who witnessed her parent's tragic death. Shortly after arriving, the girl's degenerate brother is sent home from his boarding school. The tutor has some strange, unexplainable experiences in the house and begins to suspect there is more to their story.
- 1BR (2019) - This was a different and good indie film; not a big budget, at all; however, good. Not really a horror film, but more like a suspenseful thriller. I liked it and thought it was well acted, plot moved along, and I was entertained from start to finish. Sarah lucks into a sweet one-bedroom at Asilo Del Mar Apartments, she think she's hit the jackpot. Situated on a quiet street in Los Angeles, it's got plenty of space, friendly tenants, group BBQs and even a cute neighbor next door. But this being L.A., all is not what it seems: loud noises start keeping her awake at night; her cat is missing; everyone seems to be a little too helpful and friendly, except for the weirdo, Lester. Soon, Sarah learns she didn't choose this apartment - it chose her.
- The Grudge (2004) - Back when I first saw this, it scared the bejesus outta me! Still does! Sarah Michelle Gellar is great in this role... An American nurse living and working in Tokyo is exposed to a mysterious supernatural curse, one that locks a person in a powerful rage before claiming their life and spreading to another victim. -- Then there are Grudge 2, Grudge 3, but the 1st is always the best!
- Final Destination (2000) - This movie is the first installment of, I believe 5 movies. 'Premonitions of death' movies with pretty people, some fright & a bit of blood. They're fun to watch on a lazy weekend. After a teenager has a terrifying vision of him and his friends dying in a plane crash, he prevents the accident only to have Death hunt them down, one by one.
- Burning Bright (2010) - A tiger loose in a house, stalking siblings during a hurricane? Yep, and it works!
- Black Water (2007) - A terrifying tale of survival in the mangrove swamps of Northern Australia -- This one had me hugging a pillow - UPDATE: I just watched again August 2020, and I want to stress that this is a good movie, very little blood (even though it is a crocodile movie), it works because of the actors and the suspense factors! You can find it on
- Rogue (2007) - Another good Aussie crock flick.
- Tucker & Dale vs Evil (2010) - Black comedy executed perfectly
- Lake Bodem (2016) Subtitled but good, it's a Finnish film
- Last Resort (2012) - 9 Unmanageable young men & women are given one last chance to save their lives. Some make it, some don't...

- Long Weekend (2008) - AKA: Nature's Grave. Aussie flick. A vacationing couple in the wilderness learns what happens when they disrespect nature.
- Feral (2017) - In my opinion, a much better take on the Cabin Fever style movie. And, don't get me wrong Cabin Fever is okay, too.

- 2Survive (2015) - Like many of the films I watch, I found this one by accident while searching for another. This is actually a really good little flick. 6 contestants are dropped out in the middle of the desert and the winner takes all, but at what cost...???... Eclectic, fun, young cast, each played their part excellently. You could tell they had fun making this film. The film was well executed and shot; the desert scenery well captured! AND Eric Estrada, plays Eric Estrada! FUN!

The families reluctantly create an alliance to keep the outside world from out; however, who can trust one another inside the house? Scary little indie flick.

They head to Crone Woods, and wouldn't you know it, Paganism is alive and flourishing in those Celtic woods. Kinda stayed with me even after the film ended. A well "crafted" witch'y tale.
- Rob Zombie Films deserve their own section because there is no one out there like Rob. His films are not just scary as Sh!t, they will disturb you to the core, so please be in the mood for these types of films. Sid Haig, Bill Moseley and his wife (and muse), Sheri Moon Zombie (Vera-Ellen "Baby" Firefly ~ her character in Rob's Firefly family films), play constant and integral roles in his movies 🙌🏼

- Antisocial 2 (2015) - The Social Redroom Website Virus lives on...
- Haunted Changi (2010) - There are a lot of found footage films with crews going into haunted hospitals, asylums, prisons, etc. Personally, I like this type of film. And this one is a dang good one. Filmed in Singapore, but in English, this haunted hospital film really shook me with some freaky moments. I did watch it late at night, in the dark, alone. 😱
- Killing Ground (2016) - I JUST watched this for a 2nd time. OMG! I'll say it again, the Australians make scary, disturbing movies. If I ever make it to Australia I think I'm just going to skip the whole camping in the outback thing.
- Super Dark Times (2017) - This is a really good film. Teenagers Zach and Josh have been best friends their whole lives, but when a gruesome accident leads to a cover-up, the secret drives a wedge between them and propels them down a rabbit hole of escalating paranoia and violence. This is not what I'd call a scary movie, rather, dark.
- The Ritual (2017) - This is a creepy one: A group of college friends reunite for a trip to the forest, but encounter a menacing presence in the woods that's stalking them. This is a British film, filmed in Romania.
- The Invitation (2015) - This is a really well-done thriller: A man accepts an invitation to a dinner party hosted by his ex-wife, an unsettling affair that reopens old wounds and creates new tensions.
- Man Vs. (2015) - This is a really suspenseful film: A mysterious stalker plagues a reality TV survivalist during his five days alone for a new season of his show in the northern Ontario wilderness; and the figure may not be human.
- Haunt (2019) - This is a good scary movie. The haunted house figures were REALLY scary folk: On Halloween, a group of friends encounter an "extreme" haunted house that promises to feed on their darkest fears. The night turns deadly as they come to the horrifying realization that some nightmares are real. I rented this on Amazon for $6, and it was worth it!
- The Possession of Michael King (2014) - This well done possession-fest will scare you. After poor advice from a psychic leads to the death of his wife, a man vows to disprove the existence of the paranormal by allowing himself to be possessed by demons.
- The Frankenstein Theory (2013) - This is a really good modern & refreshing take on the Frankenstein monster. Small, but strong cast, eerie and all around good film.
- Killer Movie (2008) - Fun slasher flick. Great cast, good music, funny yet has its fair share of scary. I rented on Amazon for $3.99 & it was worth every cent. Definitely recommend!
- Crawl (2011) - Scary, gore-ish, and a chill thrill that is disturbingly executed as only the Aussies can do! Definitely a wild ride.
- Truth of Die (2012) - What's a little torture among friends?! Young British boys and girls travel to an isolated cabin after being promised a night of heavy partying. Instead of the fun they hoped for, they meet a killer out to reap vengeance on them for the death of his brother.
- A Lonely Place to Die (2011) - Scottish mountain climbers find a child hidden in a hillside bunker. Great thrill ride.
- Borderland (2007) - If you're in the mood for a Mexican occult film, this one will do it for ya. Whew. This one had been in my queue for a long time, and it took me a while to work up to it; I finally watched it. This movie accomplished dreadful fear. I'm going to watch The Lion King, now.
- House of Fears (2007) - Not as good as Haunt (2019), but a pretty good Halloween haunted house of horror type movie. Had some good fears & scary scares, good little cast of pretty people. Well done at capturing people's fears.
- The Pool (2014) - Well, this was one weird little Dutch Indie film. English subtitles. I'd seen this a long time ago, and rewatched on a rainy Sunday afternoon. If you're into weird, foreign with a creepy undertone, this one is worth a watch. A father takes his wife, two sons, a friend and his daughter on a hiking trip in the woods. After a long search for a spot to set up camp, the father finds a perfect place overlooking a pool. Everybody seems to get settled quickly and when the night falls the two sons listen to a ghost story told by their father's friend at the campfire. The youngest son begins to have strange dreams and bizarre occurrences begin to develop at the camp side.
- Earthquake Bird (2019) - This is a Netflix Original Movie, and not bad. It's a slow, dark thriller about a Swedish girl living in Japan, and stems from her missing American friend. I enjoyed this movie on a rainy Saturday afternoon, and gave it a thumbs up. Not scary, just a good ole missing person mystery.
- Bird Box (2018) - A Netflix Original Movie with Sandra Bullock. I've seen this twice and must say, it's a really well-done take on a post-apocalyptic world. Five years after an ominous unseen presence drives most of society to suicide, a mother and her two children make a desperate bid to reach safety.
- Case 39 (2009) - Another creepy kid movie with Renée Zellweger. A social worker fights to save a girl from her abusive parents, only to discover that the situation is more dangerous than she ever expected.
- Lovely Molly (2011) - This is a ghostly, eerie little film that kept me entertained. Newlywed Molly moves into her deceased father's house in the countryside, where painful memories soon begin to haunt her.
- The Osiris Child (2017) - This is a really good Sci-Fi movie. It's not my typical horror flick, but was a good thrill ride. I loved the little girl and her dad, the visual effects were great, and the story was well put together. Set in the future in a time of interplanetary colonization, an unlikely pair race against an impending global crisis and are confronted by the monsters that live inside us all. I watched it on Hulu, but it's also on Amazon via IMBD.
- Animal (2014) - This is a good lost in the woods, creature feature type of horror flick. It's an independent film, but the acting is okay, the creature is creepy, there's enough blood and scares. Kept me entertained throughout! When plans for a weekend vacation hit a dead end, a group of close-knit friends find themselves stranded in unfamiliar territory, pursued by a menacing, blood thirsty predator.
- Mayhem (2017) - Noted on IMBD as an action, comedy, horror film, it is also pure mayhem! A virus spreads through an office complex causing white collar workers to act out their worst impulses. Stars Steven Yeun from Lost!
- War of the Worlds (2005) - Admittedly, I am not a Tom Cruise fan, but little Dakota Fanning made this alien invasion movie great. It is scary! As Earth is invaded by alien tripod fighting machines, one family fights for survival in this sci-fi action film.
- District 9 (2009) - This is another alien invasion movie that was also very scary. Set in South Africa, this film, to me, was very realistic. It could happen... Or I just have a really wild imagination. But whatever, it was scary. Violence ensues after an extraterrestrial race forced to live in slum-like conditions on Earth finds a kindred spirit in a government agent exposed to their biotechnology. The aliens are known as The Prawns....
- Them (2006) - Also known as ils en Francais. This is a French film w/English subtitles, but so worth the watch. Based on true events Lucas and Clementine live peacefully in their isolated country house, but one night they wake up to strange noise... they're not alone... and a group of hooded assailants begin to terrorize them throughout the night. $.99 cents to either buy or rent on Amazon, or Free w/advertisements on Amazon w/IMBD TV. I watched it with IMBD TV & advertisements, and it was okay, but cut away at suspenseful moments with an advertisement; however, if I would do it again, I'd pay the $.99 cents and buy it.
- Eden Lake (2008) - This is a disturbing, scary film, but I've seen it twice and it scared me both times. Refusing to let anything spoil their romantic weekend break, a young couple confront a gang of loutish youths with terrifyingly brutal consequences.
- Backwoods (2009) - During a company's camping & paintball weekend in the mountains the group finds that their outdoor training is more than a paint-ball game, but a fight for survival in a hostile ground whose inhabitants are maniac lunatics.

Healthy patients are suddenly developing complications and ending up in comas. She starts investigating and what she reveals is astonishing.
- Outbreak (1995) - Dustin Hoffman, Rene Russo and Morgan Freeman star in this medical thriller about an virus spreading through California that was brought to America by an African monkey. Great thriller.
- Poseidon Adventure (1972) All star cast makes this movie a classic underwater thriller! I definitely recommend! A passenger ship, on her way to the scrap yard is pushed to her limits by the new owners to save on the dismantling fees. A tidal wave hits her, flipping her over so that all the internal rooms are upside down. A priest takes a mixed band of survivors on a journey through the bowels of the ship in an attempt to survive.
- Poseidon (2006) - Great cast with Kurt Russell, this is a good remake of the original, which is even better! But this one is good, too! On New Year's Eve, the luxury ocean liner Poseidon capsizes after being swamped by a rogue wave. The survivors are left to fight for their lives as they attempt to escape the sinking ship.

- Airport (1970) - I love all of these movies in the Airport series! Great cast, excitement, and all so fun to watch! People of all generations will appreciate these films! A bomber on board an airplane, an airport almost closed by snow, and various personal problems of the people involved.

- The Concorde ... Airport '79 (1979) - Probably the weakest of the 4 Airplane movies, this one is still good with Robert Wagner! A supersonic airborne disaster. In order to survive a flight headed for the Moscow Olympics, passengers of the Concorde must endure aerial acrobatics to dodge missiles and survive a device that decompresses the plane.
- Earthquake (1974) - All of these movies I have listed made in the 70's are all really worth the watch because I wouldn't waste my time noting them if they weren't one that could be enjoyed by all generations. Various interconnected people struggle to survive when an earthquake of unimaginable magnitude hits Los Angeles, California.
- Rollercoaster (1977) - Another oldie but goodie! A blackmailer threatens to sabotage roller coasters at various American amusement parks if he isn't paid a huge ransom.
- Jaws (1975) - One of my all-time favorites. I was 7 when my dad took me and my 5 year old sister to the theater to see this movie. Dad had to take me out of the theater during the 1st scene, but I went back in and took it like a champ. Couldn't take a bath for about a week without checking the drainpipe each time... However, to this DAY! it is one of my go to chill out on a Sunday movies. Love Roy Schneider 👏🏼🦈
- Jaws 2 (1978) - Amity Island's shark had a baby. This is so much fun, for me, when there is a Jaws Marathon weekend, and Jaws 1 & 2 are back to back. I'll leave Jaws 3 in 3D & the rest of the Jaws films up to you to decide. I'm all about 1 & 2.
- Friday the 13th (1980) & Friday the 13th 2 (1981) - Won't say much about all the other chapters of this franchise, but 1 & 2 are the making of JASON! Personally, I think the female lead in Part 2, Ginny (Amy Steel), is one of the better lead females in these campy, camp-side, cheesy slasher flicks.
- Halloween (1978) - The creation of Michael Myers ~ Of course, the original is hands down my favorite, but the other chapters that follow aren't bad. Then you have the Rob Zombie re-creation of Halloween 1 & Halloween 2 and they are pretty darned great, too!
- Jurassic Park (1993) - A T-Rex & Velociraptors don't really make for fun amusement park rides, in my humble opinion.
- Malice (1993) - Twists and turns and lots of malice to go around.
- Silence of the Lambs (1991) - I'm having an old friend for dinner....
- The Exorcist (1973) - This is STILL one of the scariest movies of all time.
- Deliverance (1972) - A guy's canoeing trip in the backwoods + dueling banjos + squealing like a pig.... And Burt Reynolds + John Voight!

If you have not seen this movie yet, do it now (or watch it again!) on Amazon Prime!!!! A man searches for his missing wife after his car breaks down in the middle of the desert. It's soooooo good!!!!!
- Stir of Echos (1999) - This is a good scary little movie. Kevin Bacon is great in it! After being hypnotized by his sister-in-law, a man begins seeing haunting visions of a girl's ghost and a mystery begins to unfold around him.
- Kalifornia (1993) - This is not a horror film, but definitely a thriller, and really good. Brad Pitt, Juliette Lewis, David Duchovny. A journalist duo go on a tour of serial killer murder sites with two companions, unaware that one of them is a serial killer himself.
- Dolores Claiborne (1995) - Classic! A Stephen King book, made to movie. Kathy Bates, Jennifer Jason Leigh! Kathy Bates' one liners crack me up! A big-city reporter travels to the small town where her mother has been arrested for the murder of an elderly woman that she works for as a maid.
- Misery (1990) - Another Stephen King book, made to movie! Kathy Bates & James Caan make this movie outstanding and a must watch! After a famous author is rescued from a car crash by a fan of his novels, he comes to realize that the care he is receiving is only the beginning of a nightmare of captivity and abuse.
- Carrie (1976) - Young Sissy Spacek in this movie is all you need! Carrie White, a shy, friendless teenage girl who is sheltered by her domineering, religious mother, unleashes her telekinetic powers after being humiliated by her classmates at her senior prom.
- The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) - There is a remake of this movie, but the original is what you need to watch. This movie is scary, disturbing, but a classic horror film, for sure! Two siblings and three of their friends en route to visit their grandfather's grave in Texas end up falling victim to a family of cannibalistic psychopaths and must survive the terrors of Leatherface and his family.
- The Little Girl Who Lives Down the Lane (1976) - Jodie Foster 🙌🏼 plays 13 year old Rynn who lives alone in a big house in a small town. Her father is dead, and so is her mother... Now she must maintain secrets in order to live independently from those who doubt her story. Jodie was mesmerizing as this kid. This isn't a horror, but rather a drama of a teen who is smarter than a whip. She fools em all! If you're into classics, this is one for you to add to your "watched" queue! Martin Sheen can't be dismissed in this one either!
Not Scary Movies ~ Admittedly, I struggle here... Send me your favorites via our Contact Form!
- The Godfather (1972) - The Godfather movies are my all-time favorite movies. My dad and I would watch them over & over. I've seen them more times than I can count. If you have not seen them, make a huge bowl of popcorn and just watch. They'll make you an offer you can't refuse...
- The Godfather 2 (1974) - More of the Corleone family & mafia families continue. IT IS SO GOOD!
- Goodfellas (1990) - I guess I am partial to the mafia.
- The Peanut Butter Falcon (2019) - I'm not a sappy kind of movie watcher, but this is a really good movie. Shia LaBeouf, Dakota Johnson & Zach Gottsagen in a "modern-day Mark Twain fable that will melt your heart" (AMAZON quote & FREE). The movie is a feel-good, happy story and the setting reminds me of where my family lives who are in these parts of our country. The landscape, and the music is wonderful - my uncle plays bluegrass on the guitar so it felt really good hearing these songs and watching this movie! Definitely recommend for any day or night for the whole family!
- Armageddon (1998) - I love this movie! Liv Tyler, Bruce Willis, Ben Affleck, Billy Bob Thornton! Excellent cast, and one that I never tire of watching! After discovering that an asteroid the size of Texas is going to impact Earth in less than a month, NASA recruits a misfit team of deep-core drillers to save the planet.

Christian Slater, Patricia Arquette, Dennis Hopper, Val Kilmer, Gary Oldman, Christopher Walken, Brad Pitt! A pink Cadillac! Need I go on...!!! Because the list just goes on. In Detroit, a lonely pop culture geek marries a call girl, steals cocaine from her pimp, and tries to sell it in Hollywood. Meanwhile, the owners of the cocaine, the Mob, track them down in an attempt to reclaim it.
- The Day After Tomorrow (2004) - This is a suspenseful, action, sci-fi movie with Dennis Quaid. I placed it here because it's not a horror movie, but it does have a thrill ride for you. Jack Hall, paleoclimatologist, must make a daring trek from Washington, D.C. to New York City to reach his son, trapped in the cross-hairs of a sudden international storm which plunges the planet into a new Ice Age.
- Dark Encounter (2019) - I saw this on Amazon Prime (Free!), and was expecting a scary alien invasion style movie; however, I was wrong. This is a drama with sadness the undertone. The aliens are not the mean, scary, invaders; rather, they come as friends. Good movie! 8 y.o. Maisie went missing in 1982 and a memorial is held a year later. That evening, strange lights, sounds etc. are observed in the woods outside. Aliens.
- Queen of the Desert (2015) - Nicole Kidman's most beautiful role, ever, in my opinion. This story is based on her portrayal of Gertrude Bell, known as Queen of the Desert. This movie was beautiful in story, cinematography, music and love; her love for love, life, peace, culture and the people of the desert. This movie takes you through her deep and long explorations of the desert, her relationships formed in and through the desert, and moved me through all emotions. I highly recommend this movie.
- Ondine (2009) - This is a lovely little Irish indie film. The daughter is precious! An Irish fisherman (Colin Farrell) discovers a woman in his fishing net whom his precocious daughter believes to be a selkie. This Irish film took me by surprise, and is really beautiful. This movie will be appreciated by every age!
- 6 Undergroud (2019) - This was a fun, energetic, thrill ride of a movie with Ryan Reynolds. Streamed on Netflix. Meet a new kind of action hero. Six untraceable agents, totally off the grid. They've buried their pasts so they can change the future.
- Heatstroke (2013) - Great thriller/drama movie set in Africa with Maisie Williams (Arya Stark) of Game of Thrones. On a family trip in the African desert, a research scientist unintentionally travels off course and is brutally murdered by an arms dealer. His girlfriend is put to the ultimate survival test as she attempts to evade the killers and protect his teenage daughter.
- Ad Astra (2019) - This is not a fast moving movie, but it is a good movie. Brad Pitt carried this film, and he did is perfectly. I love outer space movies, too... ...so Brad + outer space, in my opinion, outta this world! Astronaut Roy McBride undertakes a mission across an unforgiving solar system to uncover the truth about his missing father and his doomed expedition that now, 30 years later, threatens the universe.
- Passengers (2008) - This is such a good movie. It has a little bit for everyone. I have seen it a few times, but would watch it again, and again. A grief counselor working with a group of plane-crash survivors finds herself at the root of a mystery when her clients begin to disappear.
- Dirty Dancing (1987) - Patrick Swayze & Jennifer Grey in a dancing love story with fun music! Spending the summer at a Catskills resort with her family, Frances "Baby" Houseman falls in love with the camp's dance instructor, Johnny Castle.
- Ghost (1990) - Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore, Whoopi Goldberg are all wonderful in this love-story, at times funny, drama! I've watched it so many time, and love it more with each viewing. After a young man is murdered, his spirit stays behind to warn his lover of impending danger, with the help of a reluctant psychic.
- Kramer vs Kramer (1979) One of Meryl Streep's & Dustin Hoffman's first movies that made them stars! This is a family drama and one that touches all emotions. Ted Kramer's wife leaves him, allowing for a lost bond to be rediscovered between Ted and his son, Billy. But a heated custody battle ensues over the divorced couple's son, deepening the wounds left by the separation.
- The Breakfast Club (1985) - CLASSIC! If you have not watched this movie, yet, nows a great time to do so. Even though the clothes, hair & makeup are a bit out of date, the messages are still fully relatable and relevant; and will be, so long as we're a society with teenagers & families. Best cast, great acting from all the actors (Molly Ringwald, Emilio Estevez, Judd Nelson, Anthony Michael Hall, Ally Sheedy, etc.).
- Airplane! (1980) - This Classic movie is one of the funniest movies I've seen! I love everything about it, and I'm not a comedy movie gal, at all! But this one, just hits it perfectly! Still craving for the love of his life, Ted Striker follows Elaine onto the flight that she is working on as a member of the cabin crew. Elaine doesn't want to be with Ted anymore, but when the crew and passengers fall ill from food poisoning, all eyes are on Ted.
- Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986) - The year I graduated high school we were gifted with this gem! Jennifer Jason Leigh, Matthew Broderick, man it's a great cast! Ferris, with his friends ditch school, and the fun they have!
- Starman (1984) - Jeff Bridges & Karen Allen are wonderful in this fantasy film. An alien takes the form of a young widow's husband and asks her to drive him from Wisconsin to Arizona. The government tries to stop them.
- Pulp Fiction (1994) - Quentin Tarantino's classic. John Travolta, Uma Therman, Samuel L. Jackson - Just a damn good movie!
- Spring (2014) - I went into this film without knowing what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised by the unique & downright oddness of it. The scenery in Italy is filmed beautifully, and I hope that if you choose to give this little film a go you'll enjoy this creative love story. ~A young man in a personal tailspin flees from US to Italy, where he sparks up a romance with a woman harboring a dark, primordial secret.~
- I Dreamed of Africa (2000) - This is one of my favorite movies. Based on a true story, Kim Basinger portrays Kuki Gallmann. Kuki is a single mom who goes through a traumatic experience, then meets, falls in love with and marries Paolo Gallmann. Together they move from Italy to Africa with Kuki's son, Emmanuel. They move to a cattle ranch in Kenya, where their adventurous love story unfolds. Their love for each other, for their son Emmanuel, and Africa. I admire Kuki and her work so much I named my new puppy after Kuki's daughter, Sveva. #Sevalife ~ To this day Kuki and Sveva are still in Kenya, run their ranch and are conservationists fighting poachers and protecting Africa's life. Their ranch is where they teach the "peaceful coexistence between humans & nature." Kim Basinger's best role, and everything from the scenery in Italy & Africa to the music is just wonderful! Enjoy! Follow their real life on Instagram @gallmann_mukutan_conservation or www.gallmannkenya.org
- At Your Own Risk (2015) - The 2 women carried this Indy film really well. After accepting an offer to Beta Test a new reality show, the 2 friends embark on a journey through the desert and are tested by the natural elements and their own friendship. This was a good little film. Easy to watch, good dialogue, and kept you wondering how it was going to end. I enjoyed it on a Sunday night!
- Face of Love (2013) - Annette Benning, Ed Harris and Robin Williams! Great one here! A widow falls for a guy who bears a striking resemblance to her late husband.
- The Abyss (1989) - Ed Harris, one of my all time favorite actors, stars in this underwater adventure. A civilian diving team is enlisted to search for a lost nuclear submarine and face danger while encountering an alien aquatic species. I can't believe this was made in 1989, but what a great movie to watch anytime, by anyone!
- ET (1982) - I can't believe it's been 38 years since this incredibly moving movie was made, but I still love watching it! Drew Barrymore as a babe and the rest of the cast, including our little alien they name ET are all wonderful in this movie! Great movie for all ages! After a gentle alien becomes stranded on Earth, the being is discovered and befriended by a young boy named Elliott. Bringing the extraterrestrial into his suburban California house, Elliott introduces E.T., as the alien is dubbed, to his brother and his little sister, Gertie, and the children decide to keep its existence a secret. Soon, however, E.T. falls ill, resulting in government intervention and a dire situation for both Elliott and the alien.
- Taps (1981) - This was a break through movie for so many actors, Tom Cruise, Sean Penn, and Timothy Hutton along with some old-timers, George C. Scott. I loved this movie! Military cadets take extreme measures to ensure the future of their academy when its existence is threatened by local condo developers.
- Footloose (1984) - Who cannot love Kevin Bacon in this movie! Dancing, music and lots of fun with this classic movie! A city teenager moves to a small town where rock music and dancing have been banned, and his rebellious spirit shakes up the populace.
- Taking Chance (2009) - Kevin Bacon, again, in another great role! Very moving and pulls at your heartstrings. Based on real-life events, Lt. Col. Michael Strobl, a volunteer military escort officer, accompanies the body of 19-year-old Marine Chance Phelps back to his hometown of Dubois, Wyoming.
- Thelma & Louise (1991) - 🙌🏼 Susan Sarandon, Geena Davis, Brad Pitt! And one heck of a good time road trip. Two best friends set out on an adventure, but it soon turns around to a terrifying escape from being hunted by the police, as these two girls escape for the crimes they committed.
- Young Guns (1988) - Emilio Estevez plays Billy The Kid in this classic western! I love this movie!!! Great cast & just fun to watch. A group of young gunmen, led by Billy the Kid, become deputies to avenge the murder of the rancher who became their benefactor. But when Billy takes their authority too far, they become the hunted.
- Young Guns II (1990) - A continuation of more fun with Billy the Kid! Just love these movies! Billy "The Kid" and his gang are wanted by the law, and when "Doc" Scurlock and Chavez are captured, Billy has to save them. They escape and set south for Mexico. "Let's hire a thief to catch one", John S. Chisum said, so he paid Pat Garrett, one of Billy's former partners, $1000 for the killing of William H. Bonney aka Billy "The Kid".
- Tombstone (1993) - Kurt Russell leads this great western! After success cleaning up Dodge City, Wyatt Earp moves to Tombstone, Arizona, and wishes to get rich in obscurity. Corral.
- The Bridges of Madison County (1995) - I'm not a huge fan of love stories, but this one is absolutely beautiful. I read the book first, and the movie does not disappoint. With Meryl Streep and Clint Eastwood! Photographer Robert Kincaid (Clint Eastwood) wanders into the life of housewife Francesca Johnson (Meryl Streep) for four days in the 1960s.
Shows & Series
- The Walking Dead - In my opinion this is one of THE BEST shows, ever. My love for the post-apocalyptic world doesn't stem from WHY the world has died off, but rather the stories, tribulations and triumphs of the survivors. This series is not necessarily about about zombies, but of the human aspect of loss AND rebirth, how humans support each other in the midst of chaos, decisions made in a flash second, its portrayal of how "for every action there is a reaction;" therefore, think before you speak & act, as there are consequences both immediate and/or later. The creativity of survival, the relationships formed with others who would never have been "hang out buddies" nor even acquaintances in the world of the living. The zombies are only a prop in the show providing a backdrop to what it means to survive. This is a show about the worst in, and the absolute best in humanity!
- The Killing I binged these 4 seasons so quickly! Excellent storylines, characters, Mireille Enos & Joel Kinnaman (highlighted below for the series Hanna), are just perfect together. I can see why they worked together in a whole new series, Hanna (Hanna Synopsis below⤵️). AND, YES, there is a beginning and an ending at the end of Season 4...!!!!! ~ A police investigation, the saga of a grieving family, and a Seattle mayoral campaign all interlock after the body of 17-year-old Rosie Larsen is found in the trunk of a submerged car.
- Hanna I loved this so much I have watched it twice! The main girl character, Hanna (Esme Creed-Miles), in the series and the friend she makes along her journey, Sophie (Rhianne Barreto), are wonderful. Same two actors from The Killing Mireille Enos & Joel Kinnaman are both excellent rivals, unlike their roles as detective partners in The Killing (Synopsis Above⤴️). Excitement, humor, suspense and a unique scenario make for this excellent series on Amazon Prime! In equal parts high-concept thriller and coming-of-age drama, HANNA follows the journey of an extraordinary young girl raised in the forest, as she evades the relentless pursuit of an off-book CIA agent and tries to unearth the truth behind who she is.
- Messiah A NETFLIX Original. Whether you're religious or not, this is a great thought-provoking series. When a CIA officer investigates a man attracting international attention and followers through acts of public disruption, she embarks on a global, high-stakes mission to uncover whether he is a divine entity or a deceptive con artist.
- The Haunting of Hill House By far, one of the best Haunting Horror series. So many great actors, excellent story-telling, moods are captured brilliantly, and the atmosphere dark without overdoing anything and no gore needed!!!!... You'll be swept away in this story series, immediately. Flashing between past and present, a fractured family confronts haunting memories of their old home and the terrifying events that drove them from it.
- Big Little Lies This is an outstanding show on HBO. Reece Whitherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Laura Dern, Shailene Woodley, Zoë Kravitz, need I say anymore?! 2 Seasons to date, and what a smart, interesting, and show of incredible talent! Takes place in Monterey/Carmel, CA, and the stories that are weaved! Plus, all of the kids are great, too, along with the husbands! I highly recommend! This isn't just for women, this can be enjoyed by men, too! The apparently perfect lives of upper-class mothers, at a prestigious elementary school, unravel to the point of murder when a single-mother moves to their quaint Californian beach town.
- Bloodline This is a NETFLIX Original series, and I couldn't stop watching. The family dynamics, the storylines that run throughout are fast paced, excellent dialogue and this will keep you entertained for hours! A family finds themselves forced to face their past secrets and scars when the black sheep returns home.
- Ozark What can I say, Jason Bateman & Laura Linney are outstanding👏🏼 This whole series is mind-blowingly smart, creative, funny, and everyone I know who's watched it, LOVES IT! I dare you not to fall in love with Ruth!!!!! Do yourself a favor and binge this one! This is a NETFLIX Original. A financial adviser drags his family from Chicago to the Missouri Ozarks, where he must launder money to appease a drug boss.
- Pandemic This is a mini series and a really good one, too! The bird flu virus spreads through Los Angeles as a doctor from the CDC races to find a vaccine.
- The Valhalla Murders A NETFLIX series, this Nordic with English subtitles, set in Iceland, is a great and smart mystery, detective show. There is only one season, but I hope for a 2nd? Police profiler Arnar is sent back home from Oslo to his native Iceland to investigate the country's first serial killer case. He teams up with the local senior cop Kata. Here is a review from Glamsham Editorial
- Trapped This is an outstanding Icelandic series that I cannot recommend enough. And it's FREE on Amazon! I love pretty much anything from Iceland, but this show stopped at nothing to bring you an excellent murder mystery. Just read the reviews on IMBD. In a remote town in Iceland, Police desperately try to solve a crime as a powerful storm descends upon the town. (English subtitled)
- Bordertown A Netflix Original, this Finnish crime series is really good. Thus far, there are 3 seasons to binge! The acting is superb, all the characters have their perfect placement throughout the episodes, and the storylines are not dragged out. The main character/detective, Ville Virtanen, who plays Detective Kari Sorjonen, is outstanding in his role as a detective, husband and father. The backdrop of Finland is gorgeous, and their language is so interesting. I definitely recommend, even with subtitles! A top murder investigator from the capital city of Finland moves to a small town of Lappeenranta nearby the Russian border in order to work less and spend more time with his family. However he soon realizes that the bordertown isn't the peaceful town he thought it was. If Sherlock was based in Finland this would be it.
- Black Summer A 2019 Netflix series, which is a very good zombie apocalypse thrill ride. Action packed, well-acted and happy there will be a Season 2, even though filming had to be postponed due to COVID-19. BUT S2 is coming. I definitely recommend this series! A mother, torn from her daughter, embarks upon a harrowing journey, stopping at nothing to find her. Thrust alongside a small group of American refugees, she must brave a hostile new world and make brutal decisions during the most deadly summer of a zombie apocalypse.
- Reckoning A Netflix series, this was a really good thriller. I hope they continue on with the story and go for a second season! The series explores the darkest corners of the male psyche through the eyes of two fathers, one of whom is a serial-killer. Like most men, Leo and Mike try to do what's best for the people they love, the families they protect. But as both struggle to suppress their inner demons, the murder of a local teenager sets them on a course of mutual destruction that will emanate through every facet of their quiet, suburban community.
- Lost This was one of the first TV series I can remember, and boy was it great! Excellent characters, great plot and subplots, thought provoking and suspenseful! If you have not watched it, yet, give it a go on Hulu or IMBD TV. The past, present, and future lives of surviving Oceanic Flight 815 passengers are dramatically intertwined as a fight for survival ensues in a quest for answers after crashlanding on a mysterious island. Each discovery prompts yet more secrets, as the hastily-formed colony search for a way off the island, or is this their home?
- Homecoming An Amazon Original & Produced by Julia Roberts. Season 2 just started ! This is really good, each episode is a half hour, so they go through quickly. Even though Julia Roberts & Sissy Spacek were wonderful, along with the main male character, Walter, played by Stephan James, is so good in his role. And I love that his wish is to see Yosemite. He even mentions Angles Camp during one of his scenes with Julia Roberts. I'm started Season 3, episode 4, and have not seen Julia Roberts in this season, thus far, but Joan Cusack has made an appearance in episode 3 as a government official in the DoD! I Love Joan, and don't see her often enough! IMBD synopsis: Good intentions. Erratic bosses. Mounting paranoia. Unforeseen consequences spiraling out of control. Heidi (Julia Roberts) works at Homecoming, a facility helping soldiers transition to civilian life. Years later she has started a new life, when the Department of Defense questions why she left Homecoming. Heidi realizes there's a whole other story behind the one she's been telling herself.
- Unbelievable A Netflix Series, this Limited Series explores what happens when people in authority do not listen to others who made mistakes or had a hard life. I highly recommend. It's dark at times, but its strong female cast is excellent! Based on the true story of Marie, a teenager who was charged with lying about having been raped, and the two female detectives who followed the path to the truth.
- Into the Night A Netflix Original, French with English subtitles. This is a really fast-paced thriller from the start. I really hope there's a 2nd Season! As the sun starts to kill everything in its path, a plane full of passengers attempt to fly west into the safety of the darkness to escape its destructive power.
- The Night Of I just watched this with friends, and we all thought it was such a well-made, perfectly acted show. Eight episodes and an HBO production. All 4 of us highly recommend! After a night of partying with a woman he picked up, a man wakes up to find her stabbed to death and is charged with her murder.
- The Rain This is a NETFLIX Original series, and is Danish with English subtitles. I really liked the characters and the post-apocalyptic atmosphere created. Definitely recommend this foreign series! After a brutal virus wipes out most of the population, two young siblings embark on a perilous search for safety.
- The Handmaid's Tale This is a Hulu series, and I can't wait for Season 4. It is a dystopian look at what happens to America when our government is taken over by the already powerful, greediest, self-indulgent, selfish, and I must say evil among us. Elizabeth Moss is truly amazing in her role as June, as are all the women in this series. If you have not watched it, I highly recommend you do.
- Game of Thrones HBO series that sets off as a fantastical fantasy ride through families, regions, and mystical times. Nine noble families fight for control over the lands of Westeros, while an ancient enemy returns after being dormant for millennia.
